Tasting Notes
A brilliant wine that showcases a distinct sense of place, the Bacchi Zinfandel presents aromas of ripe raspberry, spicy clove, and bay leaf. With a full, textured composition, this wine offers opulent flavors of maraschino cherry and a uniquely charismatic creme de menthe quality on the finish.
Vintage Notes
Harvest in 2016 started in the middle of August during a pattern of warm sunny days cooled by foggy mornings and breezy afternoons for most of the area. The early months of the year were very mild with little rain allowing the vines to progress steadily and uneventfully. Yields throughout the region were slightly below average but moderate weather starting in early summer gave the fruit plenty of time to develop great color and flavor, resulting in beautifully balanced wines.
Vineyard Notes
Sitting low in the Russian River Valley with numerous Eucalyptus trees and wild herbs surrounding its outer edges, Bacchi Vineyard produces one of our most distinctive Zinfandels. It’s a true expression of terroir, a word that describes what different vineyard characteristics, such as climate, soil, and geography, bring to the wine. Every vintage of Zinfandel from this century-old vineyard is unforgettably unique and compelling.
Winemaker Notes
The grapes undergo a five-day cold soak before fermentation to extract optimal color and aroma. After primary fermentation, the wine is pumped into French oak barrels, 20% new, where it undergoes natural malolactic fermentation, followed by 16 months of aging.
