Zinfandel

  • Dry Creek Valley

90 pts., | Wine Enthusiast

Tasting Notes

Our Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel opens with expressive aromatics of blackberry, cola, and cracked peppercorn. The palate is broad and generous, layered with ripe cassis and framed by a rich texture and moderate weight. Firm yet silky tannins carry through the finish, showcasing the balance and structure that define this prestigious region. Approachable and flavorful, this Zinfandel delivers a seamless and satisfying tasting experience from start to finish.

Vintage Notes

Cooler temperatures and an abundance of spring rains in 2023 pushed back the first day of harvest to the beginning of September. The later start and extra ripening time for the fruit allowed flavors and color to develop slowly for depth and concentration. Warm fall days spread harvest out past the end of October for many of the red varieties, with a final pick of Merlot delivered to the winery on November 2.

Vineyard Notes

Each vintage, winemaker Katie Madigan creates this Zinfandel sourced from some of the best vineyards in Dry Creek Valley, a region renowned for producing intense, concentrated Zinfandel. Before bottling, the wine is blended with a small amount of Petite Sirah to add additional structure and complexity.

Winemaker Notes

All grapes are hand-picked, hand-sorted, and undergo a five-day cold soak to extract optimal color and flavor. After primary fermentation, the wine is transferred to French Oak barrels, 30% New, where it undergoes natural malolactic fermentation during its elevage before bottling.
