'Il Fratello', Proprietary Red Wine

  • Sonoma County

91pts, Gold Medal | Press Democrat North Coast Wine Challenge

'Il Fratello' Estate Red Wine

Tasting Notes

A delight for the senses, this wine opens with a symphony of blue fruits, prominently featuring blueberry and currant notes. Subtle hints of vanilla bean and jasmine florals add an elegant touch. Its dark color and medium body make it perfect for sipping on cool evenings. The palate offers a juicy, fruit-forward experience, led by cranberry notes, complemented by a touch of cold slate minerality for added complexity. Delicate tannins and soft acidity make it a pleasure to drink, while the long, salivating finish leaves you craving more.

Vintage Notes

The 2021 growing season saw near-perfect growing conditions. With minimal winter rain, the vines were awakened with ideal moderate springtime temperatures, eliminating any frost threat to the developing buds. At most sites, fruit set was during the optimal timeframe due to warm, consistent conditions. Veraison occurred 7-10 days earlier than in previous years due to the temperate weather and minimal rain. Moderate daytime temperatures and cool nights throughout the summer months, with a few of the regular short-lived heat spikes, allowing for excellent flavor development. The year saw an early harvest, with 90% of the region’s grapes being picked before the late Fall.

Vineyard Notes

The Cabernet Sauvignon for this illustrious wine is sourced from our Lagomarsino Estate Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. The blend features nine unique blocks of premium Cabernet Sauvignon from this hillside vineyard. The wine incorporates Petite Sirah from our Wild Oak Estate Vineyard in the Sonoma Valley, showcasing familial similarities and the delicate nuance of the terroir.

Winemaker Notes

The nine Cabernet Sauvignon lots were fermented individually and blended together before going to barrel to age for 17 months. The lots were chosen for their unique expression of the vineyard, ranging from brightly fruit-forward wines to rich, savory lots. The Petite Sirah was blended in 3 months before bottling, bringing a lifted blueberry and floral note to complement the Cabernet and round out the final blend. Vineyard Notes The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from our Lagomarsino Estate Vineyard in Russian River Valley and blends five unique blocks from this hillside vineyard. The Petite Sirah is sourced from our Wild Oak Estate Vineyard in the Sonoma Valley.
