A vibrant and expressive blend, this wine opens with layered aromas of blackberry, raspberry compote, and blueberry, accented by hints of vanilla bean and warm spice. The palate is plush and fruit-driven, with notes of dark cherry and mixed berry preserves unfolding alongside subtle floral undertones. Silky tannins and lively acidity provide balance and structure, leading to a smooth, lingering finish with a touch of cocoa and spice.
Cooler temperatures and an abundance of spring rains in 2023 pushed back the first day of harvest to the beginning of September. The later start and extra ripening time for the fruit allowed flavors and color to develop slowly for depth and concentration. Warm fall days spread harvest out past the end of October for many of the red varieties, with a final pick of Merlot delivered to the winery on November 2.
The Cabernet Sauvignon for this illustrious wine is sourced from our Lagomarsino Estate Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. The wine incorporates Petite Sirah from our Wild Oak Estate Vineyard in the Sonoma Valley, showcasing familial similarities and the delicate nuance of the terroir.
The Cabernet Sauvignon lots were fermented individually before going to barrel to age for 15 months. The lots were chosen for their unique expression of the vineyard, ranging from brightly fruit-forward wines to rich, savory lots. The Petite Sirah was blended in 3 months before bottling, bringing a lifted blueberry and floral note to complement the Cabernet and round out the final blend. Vineyard Notes The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from our Lagomarsino Estate Vineyard in Russian River Valley and blends unique blocks from this hillside vineyard.
