Sonoma County

Where Cabernet Finds Its Voice

Cabernet Sauvignon has conquered the world, but in Sonoma County, it speaks a language all its own. Warm days build richness and depth. Cool, fog-driven nights preserve brightness and structure. The result is a wine with the power you expect from California’s signature red and a finesse that surprises. Fruit-forward but never heavy. Full-bodied but always balanced. These are Cabernets made to drink now and reward patience in the cellar.

Vineyard Sourcing
Sauvignon Blanc thrives in Sonoma County, where it is carefully cultivated in our Sonoma Valley Wild Oak Vineyard and the Russian River Valley Lagomarsino Vineyard. We also source premium grapes from other renowned Sonoma County regions, including Alexander Valley and Bennett Valley. The warmer microclimates in these areas contribute rich, full flavors and aromatic intensity, while the cooler regions bring refreshing crispness to the wine. This harmonious blend creates a wine that is vibrant, balanced, and lively.

From the Ground Up

Sourcing Cabernet Sauvignon across Sonoma County isn’t a compromise. It’s a philosophy. From the high-elevation hillsides of Moon Mountain and Rockpile to the sun-drenched valleys of Alexander Valley and the rolling hillside topography of the Russian River Valley, each appellation brings something nuanced and refined.

Rocky volcanic soils concentrate flavor. Hillside drainage stresses vines into producing small, intensely flavored clusters. Elevation lifts fruit above the fog line and into clean, dry air. The variation in altitude and the diversity of terroir give our Cabernets their complexity, and it’s why every one of our wine collections features this revered varietal.

Slow by Design

Cabernet Sauvignon is always the last grape off the vine, and that's not a coincidence. It's one of the latest-ripening varieties in the world, a thick-skinned fruit that refuses to be rushed. That extended hang time is where the magic happens. As the growing season stretches into fall, sugars build up slowly while the grape's thick skin softens the natural bitterness that young Cabernet is known for. The deep ruby color locks in and stabilizes. The green, vegetal edge that shows up early in the season gradually fades as the fruit soaks up more sun, making way for the ripe blackberry, cedar, and dark spice that Cabernet lovers recognize in the glass.

EXPRESSIVE & iMPRESSIVE

What the growing season looks like determines everything about what ends up in your bottle. In warmer years, the fruit ripens faster, producing wines with rich, generous flavors, smooth tannins, and a full, plush body. In cooler years, the slower pace preserves more of the grape's natural tartness and builds greater complexity, wines with more layers, more nuance, and a longer road ahead of them in the cellar. Neither is better. They're different expressions of the same grape shaped by the same land, and across Sonoma County's diverse appellations, we see both, often in the same harvest.
