Our 10-year Tawny Port is rich on the nose, with toasty aromas of hazelnut, sweet tobacco, and a hint of vanilla bean. On the palate, its texture is silky and luscious, delivering flavors of ripe figs and dark caramel.
This 10-Year Tawny is a special blend of hand-selected barrels spanning 13 vintages since 2007. St. Francis Winemaker Katie Madigan reserved a small number of barrels from each vintage of Port to produce 600 hand-numbered bottles of this one-of-a-kind wine. Aged in Neutral French Oak for much longer than our vintage port, our 10-Year Tawny has deep aromas of fig and dark flavors of rich caramel and toasted almonds.
To make each vintage of our Sonoma County Port, we choose blocks from our estate vineyards. We push the hang-time to 27 or 28 Brix and then place all varietals in one small tank in our artisan winery. We inoculate with yeast immediately and let the fermentation begin. During this time our crew stays on-call 24 hours a day, checking Brix every hour until it hits the designated target. When fermentation is at the right level, we add 120-proof brandy made to stop fermentation. The port is then immediately put into neutral French oak barrels for aging.
