Wines Rooted in Real ...
At St. Francis Winery & Vineyards, we’re not driven by celebrity names or billionaire brands—we’re guided by the soil beneath our feet. Rooted in the heart of Sonoma County, our wines are crafted with integrity, balance, and a genuine respect for the land and the people who tend it. For more than 50 years, St. Francis has been a cornerstone of Sonoma winemaking, producing high-quality, sustainable wines that celebrate this remarkable region’s diverse valleys, mountains, and microclimates.
Rooted in Sonoma Soil

Founded in 1971 by Joe Martin, who planted the first Merlot vines in Sonoma Valley, St. Francis Winery has always reflected the real spirit of Sonoma—down-to-earth, passionate, and community-focused. Our wines showcase the best of the county’s mountain and valley vineyards, farmed with care and crafted to express the true essence of place.

Responsibily Grown
Sustainably Crafted
Every bottle of St. Francis wine begins with a commitment to sustainability and stewardship. We farm over 400 acres of Certified Sustainable vineyards across Sonoma Valley and Russian River Valley, using thoughtful, environmentally responsible practices that protect our land for generations to come. From water conservation and composting to renewable energy and wildlife-friendly farming, we work in harmony with nature—because sustainability isn’t a trend here; it’s our way of life.
Real People Behind the Wines
At St. Francis Winery, every bottle begins with the dedication and artistry of our winemakers, Katie Madigan and Chris Louton, whose deep respect for the land guides each decision from vineyard to cellar. Blending science, intuition, and an enduring love for Sonoma, they craft wines that are expressive, balanced, and true to their origins. Their work is supported by Vineyard Director Jake Terrell, whose connection to the land runs deep as he carefully tends each vine with an eye toward sustainability and long-term vitality. Together, they embody a culture built on authenticity, stewardship, and purpose—one that strives to preserve the majesty and integrity of the land that sustains both our wines and our way of life.
Real People Behind the Wines
Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker: Chris Louton
Our Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the rugged beauty of hillside vineyards rooted in Goulding Clay Loam and Zamora Silty Clay Loam. These rocky, cobbly soils produce small, concentrated berries that deliver depth and power. Notes of blackberry, cherry, espresso, and spice unfold with smooth tannins and a long, juicy finish. Crafted from vines literally rooted in real mountain earth, this Cabernet celebrates Sonoma’s strength, balance, and enduring character.
Chardonnay

Winemaker: Katie Madigan
This Sonoma County Chardonnay captures the bright, coastal essence of vineyards grown in gravelly and alluvial soils across the valley floor. Rooted in real Sonoma terroir, these vines express vibrant fruit character and refined balance. Flavors of pear, apple, lemon zest, and graham cracker meet a creamy texture and crisp mineral finish. Each sip reflects the cool breezes, complex soils, and craftsmanship that define the best of Sonoma County Chardonnay.
Pinot Noir

Winemaker: Katie Madigan
Our Sonoma County Pinot Noir thrives in well-draining Pleasanton and Yolo loams layered with gravel and river stones. Rooted in real Sonoma soil shaped by centuries of water and wind, these vineyards yield fruit of elegance and finesse. Aromas of red cherry, pomegranate, and baking spice unfold on a silky palate with a long, harmonious finish. This wine captures the balance between Sonoma’s coastal climate and its diverse, expressive terrain.
Merlot

Winemaker: Chris Louton
Sonoma Valley’s ancient alluvial fans nurture our Merlot vines, rooted in Cortina gravelly loam shaped by centuries of rain and mountain runoff. These well-drained soils create fruit of remarkable depth and elegance. Layers of plum, cassis, and cocoa glide across the palate, supported by soft tannins and balanced structure. Rooted in real Sonoma earth, this Merlot embodies warmth, richness, and the genuine character of our valley vineyards.
