Peter Janiak

Executive Chef Peter Janiak

Peter Janiak is the Executive Chef and Hospitality Manager at St. Francis Winery & Vineyards, where his culinary creativity and genuine love of hospitality have helped shape some of Sonoma Valley’s most memorable wine and food experiences.

Peter’s relationship with food and wine began early. Growing up in Dartmouth, MA, a small coastal community surrounded by farms and vineyards, he developed a deep appreciation for the way good food and good wine bring people together. After graduating from Providence College, he took his first steps into the culinary world at a small winery in Little Compton, RI, where he worked under Executive Chef Ana Sortun. Chef Sortun’s mentorship inspired Peter to pursue formal training at the New England Culinary Institute in the British Virgin Islands.

From there, his career took him across the country. In Portland, OR, he joined Chef Cory Schreiber at the acclaimed Wildwood Restaurant, where he developed a philosophy grounded in local, seasonal sourcing and a strong sense of place. He built relationships with farmers and fishmongers that shaped his approach to ingredients and deepened his commitment to cooking that reflects its surroundings.

Peter later moved to San Francisco, where he worked at distinguished restaurants including Boulevard before becoming Executive Chef at Presidio Social Club. It was during this time that Sonoma County drew his attention with its legendary agricultural heritage, extraordinary local producers, and world-class wines. He made it his home.

In 2011, Peter joined Seghesio Family Vineyards as Executive Chef, developing a California-certified charcuterie program and building food and wine pairing experiences driven by his passion for California Zinfandel. His success there led to a broader role as Culinary Director at Crimson Wine Group, Seghesio’s parent company.

Peter has since brought his “rustic-chic” culinary style and his deep Sonoma roots to St. Francis Winery & Vineyards, where he oversees both the kitchen and the full guest experience. He leads the winery’s celebrated culinary programs, including the Wine & Food Pairing, Secrets of Sonoma, and Winemaker Dinners, creating a seamless relationship between food, wine, service, and storytelling.

His philosophy is simple: luxury hospitality should feel personal, not precious. Known for his energetic leadership and collaborative spirit, Peter is as invested in mentoring his team as he is in delighting guests. He believes the most memorable experiences come not only from exceptional wine and cuisine, but from the people who share them and the connections formed around the table. Whether developing a seasonal menu, refining a guest experience, or welcoming first-time visitors, Peter brings creativity, warmth, and a genuine sense of fun to everything he does.
