Fruit for this Super Tuscan–style blend comes from a dry-farmed vineyard on the western edge of the Sonoma Valley floor, where red volcanic soil and excellent drainage yield small crops of concentrated, intensely flavored grapes. In true Old-World tradition, this acclaimed Sangiovese is blended with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon from one of our premier growers, enhancing its depth and complexity while staying true to its Italian roots.

Caro Santo: A Tribute to Sonoma’s Natural Majesty

Each vintage of Caro Santo Sangiovese is a heartfelt dedication to the breathtaking beauty of the Sonoma Valley. The name, meaning ‘Dear Saint’ in Italian, is an homage to the natural beauty and abundance of Sonoma Valley. Each vintage of Caro Santo carries a quiet wish for St. Francis’ blessing, honoring the land that makes this wine possible. Like a letter to nature itself, Caro Santo captures the rugged majesty of Sonoma’s volcanic soils, rolling hills, and sun-soaked vineyards. It is a wine born of reverence—crafted to honor the land and the legacy it inspires.

Tasting Notes

The 2022 Caro Santo Sangiovese opens with captivating aromas of sandalwood, incense, and pomegranate, mingled with juniper berry and fresh raspberries. Its palate is full and dense, balancing purity of fruit with layers of juicy plum, roasted almond, and dried citrus. Hints of blackberry and subtle earthiness emerge as its lively acidity and fine tannins create an elegant, food-friendly structure.

Winemaker Notes

Guided by Winemaker Katie Madigan’s expertise, the Sangiovese grapes are carefully fermented in both open- and closed-top tanks to enhance aromatics and texture. A gentle three-day cold soak precedes fermentation, ensuring optimal color and flavor development. After 15 months of French oak aging, the finished wine embodies a perfect harmony of Old World elegance and New World vibrancy—truly a signature expression of Sonoma Sangiovese.
