WINE ENTHUSIAST – September 2008 - “89 Points”
The dryness and minerality of this wine, combined with its clean, brisk elegance, make it a very nice partner for shellfish. The flavors are lemons, limes and ripe, crisp white peaches.

2005 Old Vines Zinfandel, Wild Oak, Sonoma County
WINE ENTHUSIAST – September 2008 - “88 Points”
Soft in texture, this Zin has flavors of freshly crushed, ripe blackberries, cherries and raspberries, cocoa and black pepper, with a burnt brown-butter, baked pastry crust edge. It’s pretty tannic, which makes it a good foil for rich meats and cheeses. Buy Now! |

News from the Vineyards
By Winemaker Tom Mackey |
 |
Patience! It's nearly that time again. Hopefully Dionysus and his younger brother Bacchus will show some remorse and give us a great vintage. They have been capricious so far. A low winter and early spring rainfall followed by 22 days of frost after bud break with wind and showers during bloom gave our vineyard crew many sleepless nights. |
| Although the crop looks somewhat smaller than average, the summer weather has come with only a few moderate heat spikes (ideal ripening conditions), which is good news. Veraision, or red grape coloring is well underway and the white grapes are beginning to soften. We have been closely monitoring all of our vineyards for cluster positioning, leaf removal, water stress and it is now time to check for ripening. Before the end of August we will harvest the Sauvignon Blanc and possibly a block or two of Chardonnay. |
The bottling season ends this week and the interns are in training. The tanks, presses and de-stemmers have been cleaned and are ready to go. The barrels, both new and 1 year old are ready for Chardonnay juice. This year for the first time both the clusters and berries will be hand sorted on new sorting tables before being made into Artisan Wines. What we lose in speed using this hand sorting method we will gain in varietal purity.
Grape samples are arriving now and the vineyard checks will increase.
Hurry up and wait for optimal ripeness. Patience! |
